Bhutan Festival 2008

 

WANGDI PHODRANG FESTIVAL TOUR

DAY 1. ARRIVAL BY DRUK - AIR - PARO
During this journey, one will experience breathtaking views of Mt. Everest, Kanchen Junga and other Himalayan Peaks including sacred Mr. Chomolhari & Mt. Jachu Drake in Bhutan. On arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be received by our representative of Dragon Trekkers & Tours on completion of the customs formalities you will be transferred to Hotel for overnight.

DAY 2. PARO - SIGHTSEEING
Drive the winding road northwest up the Pachu to Drugyel Dzong, the ruined fortress which once defended this valley from Tibetan invasion and the Dzong was erected to commemorate the victory over the Tibetan invader. From here Mr. Chomolhari, the sacred summit can be viewed on clear day. On the way back visit a typical Bhutanese farm house. After lunch drive to visit the National Museum and stroll in Paro Town. Overnight at Hotel.

DAY 3. PARO - THIMPHU
This morning follow the winding road beside the Pachu (Chu means river or water) down stream to its confluence with the Wanghu then up valley to Thimphu the capital of Bhutan. Enroute visit Simtokha Dzong the oldest Dzong which now houses the school for study of Dzongkha the national language of Bhutan and stroll in Thimphu City. Overnight at Hotel.

DAY 4 . THIMPHU - SIGHTSEEING
Full day sightseeing and shopping in Thimphu. Morning visit Handicraft Emporium, National Library, Painting school, Zelukha Nunnery. After lunch visit Memorial Chorten (Stupa) of His Late Majesty the 3 rd King of Bhutan and stroll in Thimphu city for shopping of souviners from Bhutan. Overnight at Hotel.

DAY 5. THIMPHU - WANGDI
Drive to Wangdi which is approximately three hours journey. Witness the opening ceremony of the festival. No photography allowed. Overnight at camp/guest house.

DAY 6. WANGDI
Witness full day festival at the courtyard of Wangdiphodrang Dzong. Programme will be handed over before the festival.

DAY 7 WANGDI - THIMPHU
Drive to Thimphu. Enroute visit Punakha Dzong (till courtyard only) the ancient capital of Bhutan. On the way from Dochula pass one can enjoy the magnificent view of Himalayas of Bhutan on the clear day and continue the drive. Overnight at Hotel.

DAY 8. THIMPHU - PARO
After breakfast drive to Paro up to Satsamechorten. From Satsamchorten hike to Taktsang ( Tiger's Nest) till the view point for 2 hours and lunch will be served at Taktsang cafeteria. After lunch hike back to the motor road where the transport will meet and drive back to Hotel for refreshing tea and snacks. Overnight at Hotel/leisure.

DAY 9. HOTEL - AIRPORT
Drive to Paro International Airport for departure by Druk Air, the national carrier of Bhutan.
