MOSCOW - is conveniently sited in the centre of Russia's European part where the rivers Moskva and Yauza cross the Central Russian Plateau. A settlemnt of artisans and traders arose at the site of the present-day Kremlin and Zaryadie long before the first mention of Moscow in chronicles (the year 1147). Standing at the crossing of the main trading routes (the Moskva River and the Yauza), it had its centre on Borovitsky Hill. In the 15th century Moscow became capital of the Russian state. With the transfer of Russia's capital of St. Petersburg in 1712, it became the country's second capital. In 1918 it became the capital of the Russian Federation, and from 1992 to 1991, it was the capital of USSR. Present-day Moscow is a capital of the Russian Federation. Place of vist:

ST. PETERSBURG -St. Petersburg lies in the north-west of Russia where the river Neva discharges its waters into the Gulf of Finland. This innately Russian region has long been known as the Land of Izhora. From time immemorial did it serve Russia as the gateway to the Baltic Sea and it was here that the trading route connection the West with the East began. In the 8th and 9th centuries, long before the emergence of St. Petersburg, the famous raod from the Varengian to the Greek passed here via river routes from the Baltic to the Black sea. People call St. Petersburg the city of three revolution in 1905, the bourgeois-democratic revolution in February, 1917 and the socialist revolution in October 1917.
