SHANGRI-LA, - Between heaven an earth where clouds play with mountains and rivers dance to a rhythm of their own. Lies the historic homeland of Tibetan nomads once experienced only through the class James Hilton novel, Lost Horizon. Shangri-La" is a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamaery, enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains. Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise but particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia—a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world. In the novel Lost Horizon, the people who live at Shangri-La are almost immortal, living years beyond the normal lifespan. The story of Shangri-La is based on the concept of Shambhala, a mystical city in Tibetan Buddhist tradition. This mountains area in China's Yunnan province has been designated the official Shangri-la and is one of th most secluded hideaways in the world. In this remote ranging wilderness, Banyan Tree has chosen to cloated its very first resort in China.

Hovering above 3,200 metres, the weathered Tibetan homes have witnessed the cycles of spring, summer, autunm, winter.

These authentic decases-old farmhouses have been meticulously chosen and relocated log by log, to reside in the now world of Bayan Tree Ringha.
